1. "Tabloid Reading" (1994)
This is the most famous film directed by K. Tarantino, which won an Oscar, a Palme d'Or and was nominated for 6 more Oscars. The plot follows several seemingly unconnected stories of hitmen, a boxer and gangsters. It is an example of post-modern cinema, where the director is not afraid to break with established standards: all the characters in the film are purely "bad guys".
2. "Escape from Shushenko" (1994)
A film about friendship, the blows of fate, humanity preserved even in life's limiting situations. The protagonist Andy is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife and her lover. His days in prison are brightened by Ellis, another prisoner. Andy himself earns the respect of the other inmates over time, but even though he has settled well in prison, he still hopes to be released one day.
3. "The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
"Silence of the Lambs is considered one of the creepiest and most influential films in cinema history (and beyond): when it was released, it unleashed a huge wave of women wanting to become FBI agents. The film won 5 Oscars.
The lead role in the film was played by the famous Anthony Hopkins, whose character Hannibal Lekter had Lithuanian roots. By the way, we will reveal the main storyline: a young female agent is sent to collaborate with a cannibal killer: her goal is to help the vicious criminal catch another serial killer who skins his victims.
4. The Usual Suspects (1995)
A crime story: police investigate a ship explosion that leads to the discovery of a large number of dead bodies on a pier and the discovery of a $100 million shipwreck. A shipment of drugs worth USD 100 million is discovered. Verbal, a surviving male witness, struggles to explain what has just happened, but begins to remember how he got involved and how he managed to get his coat.
In fact, the action revolves around all 5 characters - archetypes of a kind. The film is also appealing for its lightness and fun.
5. "Magnolia" (1999)
A drama that can safely be called a mosaic of intertwined characters. All of them are searching for love, the meaning of life and forgiveness. We will also briefly look at the plot. So an old man, a famous TV producer, is stricken by cancer, and his much younger wife, who married him only for money, is incapable of feeling pity and compassion for the sick man. And Phil, the old man's "right-hand man", will do anything to reconcile him with his far-flung careerist son. By the way, one of the leading roles is played by the charming Tom Cruise.
6. "Menantis pikta" (1992)
The film can be classified as an anti-western. The protagonist, William Manis, is a former hitman who eventually becomes a farmer and settles with his children away from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, his new life experiences further confuse the cards and prompt Manis to return, albeit reluctantly, to his old ways. He agrees to kill two cowboys who have broken the unwritten law. Manny is helped by his former partner and a new friend.
7. "Schindler's List (1993)
This is a film with a very popular Holocaust theme. It was directed by the famous Steven Spielberg. Oskar Schindler, a German, saved more than a thousand Jews during World War II. The film, which lasts almost 200 minutes, reveals much of the horrors of the Holocaust as experienced by European Jews persecuted by Hitler and his followers. SS officer Otto and a little girl wearing a red coat are also at the centre of the events.
8. "The Good Guys (1990)
Based on a true story about a former member of the Mafia, Henry Hill. The plot is not only about this US-based character with Irish and Italian roots, but also about two of his somewhat unstable friends who go from being petty villains to cold-blooded killers. It is thus a film not only about the rise and fall of gangsters over several decades, but also about dedication, sincerity and loyalty.
9. "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" (1991)
This is the only sci-fi film in this top 10 directed by James Cameron. The film tells the story of mankind's recent survival of a nuclear apocalypse. Humans take on robots and machines of their own design. In the film, a cyborg has the goal of protecting his ten-year-old son John from another more advanced and even more powerful cyborg.
In the year it was officially released, Terminator 2: Judgement Day was the most expensive film of all time.
10. "Seven" (1995)
A US crime thriller starring Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. Two detectives, William, a veteran cop about to retire, and David, a young, brave and very dedicated detective, are confronted with a series of unusual murders. It turns out that a serial killer has been murdering people who have committed the big 7 sins. As the detectives try to unravel these cases, things take a rather unexpected turn.
