Nissan has made history as the first non-Chinese automaker to plan to install the artificial intelligence (AI) tool DeepSeek in its car.

DeepSeek's popularity outside China is declining

Nissan is  reportedly integrating DeepSeek into its upcoming new model, the N7 electric sedan.

This sedan is manufactured in China through the Japanese-Chinese joint venture Dongfeng Nissan.

DeepSeek came to light just over a month ago and almost immediately became popular around the world .

However, after the Chinese chatbot topped the US Apple Store app list, it began to receive controversial reviews.

Many countries have begun to talk about the risks posed by DeepSeek, and in some countries this tool has been banned , citing national security and data security concerns.

DeepSeek was chosen for certain advantages

According to Nissan, the new electric vehicle will utilize the self-learning capabilities of the DeepSeek-R1 large model.

This integration of DeepSeek into the N7 is argued to enable the Chinese AI tool to accurately recognize user intent and provide a more natural and seamless human-computer interaction experience.

The car will also be able to accurately recognize the user's needs regarding voice control, navigation planning and entertainment system recommendations, and provide the necessary assistance.

DeepSeek R1, which has been adopted by many Chinese car brands, is said to outperform the OpenAI 01 model and costs much less to train.

Car manufacturers that have applied DeepSeek to their models include BYD, Zeekr, Dongfeng M-Hero, Smart, Leapmotor, and IM Motors.

The fact that Nissan has applied DeepSeek to its car strengthens the chatbot's reputation, and it is believed that Nissan may encourage other non-Chinese automakers to start using DeepSeek.

It is likely that now that Nissan has rejected a merger with Honda , the company may start focusing more on AI.
