Google has announced a major update to its artificial intelligence (AI) platform, Gemini 2.0, a next-generation chatbot. The company is introducing new features for the model, which will be rolled out in phases. What can we expect from Gemini 2.0 and how will it change the world of AI?

Google is also releasing a cheaper alternative, Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite, which is currently available to developers through AI Studio and Vertex AI.

Google says Flash-Lite is the most cost-effective model they’ve ever built.

The best AI model

People who have the Gemini app will be able to try out Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental, which Chatbot Arena has ranked as the best AI model.

This version of Gemini 2.0 Flash stands out for its ability to break down complex queries into multiple steps, helping to answer more complex questions more accurately.

For those looking for an even more powerful tool, Google is offering Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental for Gemini Advanced, Google AI Studio, and Vertex AI users.

Flash Thinking can also interact with apps like Maps, YouTube, and Search.

“These connected apps make Gemini an exceptionally useful AI assistant,” said Patrick Kane, director of product management for Gemini.

The news keeps coming

Google has announced the broad release of Gemini 2.0 Pro Experimental, Flash-Lite, and Flash Thinking, continuing its AI news series.

Last month, the Samsung Galaxy S25 became the first phone to feature Astra, a feature that allows users to get contextual AI information through the phone’s camera. Additionally, the Daily Listen feature has been introduced, which generates audio summaries based on a user's Search and Discover activity.

These innovations indicate the company's efforts to compete with the rapidly growing DeepSeek, which offers similar performance at a lower price.
