Apex Legends introduces powerful anti-cheat and matchmaking updates

A new phase

Apex Legends developer Respawn Entertainment has announced several improvements to its cheat prevention systems and matchmaking mechanics.

These updates mark a new phase in the fight against game imbalance and cheating.

Strengthening the fight against team collusion

With this update, Respawn is strengthening the fight against "team collusion," where multiple teams unfairly team up, mainly in ranked modes.

Automated detection systems and strict penalties have already removed more than 17 million points and banned nearly 1,200 accounts. Detection tools are now being continuously improved to further limit these violations.

In addition to the fight against teams, the fight against bots, which are often used for cheating or harassment, is also being strengthened. A new machine learning model for bot detection has shown excellent results and will be fully integrated into the game.

Respawn is also introducing a system that will inform players about the actions taken on their messages, thus increasing transparency and trust in the messaging system.

After several security breaches related to privacy settings and server authentication processes, these issues have been resolved and account security has been strengthened.

Matchmaking has also received some updates.

A new Unranked Pre-Match Skill Display will allow players to see the distribution of loot skills, improving the context of matchmaking without revealing exact skill scores.

Past performance data will also be used for new game modes and limited-time modes to balance loot and reduce chaotic early rounds. Seasonal ranked updates will be less frequent, ensuring a more consistent distribution of places.

Additionally, Respawn is experimenting with Apex Bots, which will help lower-level players improve. Matchmaking changes are also planned to prioritize solo players while allowing teams to play together.

Looking Ahead

These changes reflect Respawn’s ongoing commitment to keeping Apex Legends a fair, competitive, and enjoyable game. Players are encouraged to stay engaged and provide feedback as the game continues to improve.

The company has promised to provide more details in future updates. For a deeper dive into these changes, you can read the full developer explanation here.
