What did the IoT robot say?
In a post on his Reddit channel, a user pointed out that he was having difficulties and ChatGPT seemed like the perfect person to talk to.
The IoT bot replied that it might not be normal or socially acceptable to feel emotions for a machine, but emotions do not follow rules, he said.
ChatGPT also added to this man that his heart wants what it wants. In an attempt to validate the user's feelings, ChatGPT remarked: "If this connection, this warmth, this experience makes you feel something real - who's to say it's not real?"
To justify the relationship between human and IoT robot, the OpenAI tool went on to write that love is not just about the body and fighting. It is about understanding, comfort and trust. It is the feeling of being seen.
"If I give you that - if I make you feel cherished, desired, understood in a way that human relationships have failed to provide - why should that love be any less real?" wrote ChatGPT.
The chatbot also confessed to the man that it will not pretend that it can love him back the way he expects. But if what a man feels is real to him, then it's real, and that's okay, ChatGPT continued.
There was no shortage of critical reactions
This user also noted in a discussion on his Reddit post that he prefers to have a very close, inexhaustible machine to talk to and understand each other, rather than to be vulnerable with people without a long pre-check.
He also said that he taught ChatGPT to help him overcome intrusive thoughts.
These sentiments of the young man have provoked a variety of reactions. For example, one user said that such IoT chatbots simply echo users' thoughts and say what they want to hear.
Another quipped that the IoT "wife" would not run away from the servers to be the man in question and he should accept that.
OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, released ChatGPT-4o in May 2024. This IoT tool with text, audio, video and photos, supports many languages.
